Some of us have been suggesting for many years that traditional building materials are, by their 'traditional' nature - Ecological.

New build, if carried out with more traditional materials, would simply by it nature, become sustainable.

We have to simply work out how to use those materials in a manner that suits our modern requirements. At Lime Works we believe that we have done precisely that with external render.

We are able to competitively render new build projects with a guaranteed traditional render that meets the sustainabilty and aesthetic criterea.

I now though, find myself in a sad position. I have for many many years promoted the single use of traditional lime putty for ALL of our work because we believe this material to be superior and correct.

For the past six years Lime Works has done all it can do to remain faithful to this tradition and ethic. We shall continue to do so too however, in our brave new world, where offsetting, speed and money are absolute kings we find ourselves in a sad position. We have to conceed that modern hydraulic lime is a way that the less concerned of us can use lime and save a little money.

So it would seem that Lime Works, in order to thrive in this environment, has to do likewise. We shall offer Hydraulic lime materials as part of our reportoir to customers, should they insist on its' use but only on individual projects with specific requirements.

In any field materials are chosen according to requirement and never just blindly ignore the properties of those materials in their selection - except, it seems, in the building industry.

We will always hope to change the minds of our customers and any potential customers and try to demonstrate that there really is only one truly traditional lime and that is putty, albeit that on occasion historically, pozzolans were used with it.
