
Course Aims:
The training course is a Lime Mortar course to discover the history of materials, their technicalities, functionality and reasons for their historic use. We will compare materials, old and new. The course will show the symbiosis of local vernacular ability and tomorrows sustainable requirements and how one material alone is able to beneficially alter the properties of any building – past, present and future. The course should create as many question as answers!
Who should attend?
CPD for professionals in the construction industry both old and new or anyone with an interest in the historic vernacular or future sustainability of buildings.
Course Overview:
This course will not teach you to become a plasterer because this would be utterly impossible in 2 days! It will however deliver a deep insight into the history of materials and why they continue to be appropriate today, if understood and used correctly.
Syllabus:
Day 1 Morning session:
Introduction to the course and the material
An overview of the history including;
· Man with a shovel
· Local availability
· Historic Local vernacular

Afternoon Session:
Technical performance of historic materials
Knowledge and understanding throughout history
Evening session:
An optional pub trip for supper to carry on the discussion/debates of the day!
Day 2 Morning Session:
Material comparison: new & old

Prices:
The course will be held over two days on a Wednesday and Thursday. The courses will run from 9am until 5pm each day. The price will be £125 per person per day including a hot lunch and refreshments on tap.
